Strategy
We won't quote you until we know what's actually broken.
Every Booked engagement opens with the same diagnostic, whether you end up in a Growth Program, on a Lead Network, or walking away with a plan you run yourself. It takes about two weeks and it produces a document, not a pitch.
Why lead with strategy when everyone else leads with a package
Because packages are priced for the agency's operations, not your situation. A “local SEO package” exists because it's repeatable to deliver — not because the 400 businesses buying it share a bottleneck.
The businesses we meet are rarely failing at marketing execution. They're executing on the wrong thing: paying for keywords no customer uses, boosting posts to people outside their service area, ranking well for a service they don't want more of, or — most often — generating leads perfectly well and losing them to a slow response.
None of that is fixable with a bigger budget on the same channel. It's fixable in about two weeks of honest diagnosis, which is why we refuse to skip it.
The process
Four steps, then a decision you make with real information
-
The call — 20 minutes
What you sell, what you'd want more of, what your capacity actually is, and where work comes from today. We're listening for the constraint: is it demand, is it conversion, or is it follow-up? Those three problems look identical from the outside and need completely different money.
-
The diagnostic — about two weeks
We map real demand in your market: what people search, what they ask assistants, what the map pack rewards, and what social intent looks like for your category. We audit your current visibility across all of it, including what AI assistants say right now when asked to recommend a business like yours — usually the most uncomfortable slide. Then we take apart whoever is winning and identify the specific, mechanical reason they are.
-
The read — written, plain language
A ranked set of moves. For each one: what it takes, what it should produce, and how long before you'd know. It also says what not to spend on, which is usually the most valuable page. You keep this document regardless of what you decide next.
-
The route
One of three recommendations. Build it on your own domain as a Growth Program; take leads from a Lead Network we already own in your market; or take the plan and run it in-house, which we'll say plainly when the numbers don't justify hiring us.
How we work
What AI changed, and what it didn't
| Stage | Traditional agency | How Booked runs it |
|---|---|---|
| Discovery | 4–6 weeks of workshops and stakeholder interviews, billed | Days. Market, competitor and entity research runs AI-assisted and comes back deeper than the workshop version |
| Competitive analysis | Top 3 competitors, surface level, once | Everyone ranking and everyone being cited by assistants, re-checked as it shifts |
| Content production | Junior writer, 4–8 pages a month, thin | Senior-edited at volume — the depth that used to get cut for budget is now the standard build |
| Technical & schema | Upsell, or skipped | Included. It's most of why AI engines can read you at all |
| Who you talk to | Account manager relaying to a team you never meet | The person doing the thinking |
| Strategy & judgement | Senior time, rationed | Still human, still senior — this is the part AI is worst at and the part you're actually paying for |
The honest version: AI made production cheap and made judgement more valuable. Agencies whose margin depended on billing production hours have a problem with that. We built around it.
Straight answers
About the strategy phase
What is a marketing diagnostic?
A diagnostic is a two-week analysis that establishes where a business's customers actually make decisions before any money is spent on channels. For a small business it covers search demand, map-pack position, AI assistant visibility, social intent and lead response speed, and ends in a ranked list of recommended moves.
Do I have to buy anything after the diagnostic?
No. The written read is yours whatever you decide, including taking it to another firm or running it in-house. We'd rather be the company that told you the truth than the one that sold you a retainer you didn't need — small business owners talk to each other.
What if the answer is that I don't need an agency?
Then that's what the document says. It happens most often with businesses whose real constraint is response time or capacity rather than demand — in those cases more leads makes the problem worse, and we'll show you the arithmetic rather than take the money.
Start here
Tell us the bottleneck. We'll tell you what we'd do.
Every engagement starts the same way: a 20-minute call, then a written read on where your customers are actually looking for you and what it would take to be the answer they find.
You'll get a straight recommendation — including "you don't need us for this," when that's the honest answer. If a Lead Network already covers your trade and territory, we'll say so, because that's the faster route and you'd rather know.
